Already early on it was clear to Nikolaus Kolhammer that his future lay in the art trade. His career began in 2008 in the restoration workshop of his father Alfred Kolhammer. Old materials and the precise reconstruction of techniques of the arts and crafts of past eras awakened great enthusiasm in him. He was also particularly fascinated by the glasses of the Johann Loetz-Witwe company, which is still one of his favourite art manufactories today. Nikolaus is also enthusiastic about integrated corporate identities from communication to design and is, among other things, responsible for the design of the annual catalogues.
Florian Kolhammer was born in Vienna in 1985 as the son of Alfred and Brigitte Kolhammer, both art dealers themselves. In 2008-2009 he worked in his father’s own restoration workshop and discovered his passion for arts and crafts. He was particularly fascinated by working with old pigments made from minerals and plants. Florian is an enthusiastic art historian and materials expert. He is especially fascinated by the connection between social events and their effects on art. Also, he is particularly enthusiastic about the works of Koloman Moser, Otto Wagner, Gudrun Baudisch and the Hagenauer brothers. The works of the French Impressionists also have a special place in his heart; Henry Martin and Paul Signac in particular have impressed him. Passionate, emotional and motivated, this is how Florian sees himself in his work as an art dealer.
Flore Friden has been a permanent member of the Kunsthandel Kolhammer team since December 2019. After studying Product Design & Integrated Design in Glasgow and Cologne, Flore applied to Kunsthandel Kolhammer in summer 2019. Very quickly it became clear to everyone that they got on well and that nothing stood in the way of a collaboration. Flore is primarily responsible for the graphic implementation of the print media and the social media presence. She can usually be found in our main gallery at Plankengasse 7. She speaks German, French, English, Luxembourgish, Serbo-Croatian and Italian.
Marco Tezzele joined the team of Kunsthandel Kolhammer at the end of 2017. Marco can almost always be found in the joint showroom K&L, where he is mainly responsible for customer service, accounting and gallery assistance. He is also responsible for writing some of our texts for catalogues and our website. Marco Tezzele is not only interested in works by Austrian contemporaries, but also in objects of arts and crafts from the Loetz company and the Werkstätte Hagenauer. Besides German and English, Marco speaks fluent Italian.
The tale of the Kolhammer brothers
The story of Kunsthandel Kolhammer begins in 2008. The two brothers Florian & Nikolaus, sons of two art dealers, grow up surrounded by art. In 2008 both brothers join the restoration workshop of their father Alfred and work mainly on Austrian art objects of the Gothic and Baroque eras. Towards the end of 2009 this occupation is no longer enough. The two brothers move from the workshop to the business premises at Plankengasse 7 in Vienna’s 1st district. For four years they work there as managing directors with their father as a mentor and get to know the profession of art dealer very well. On their mother’s advice, they visit as many museums as they can and soon decide on a common interest: Viennese Jugendstil fascinates the two brothers and keeps on captivating them. In 2013, supported by their mother Brigitte and grandmother Hertha, the “Kunsthandel Florian & Nikolaus Kolhammer OG” is founded. Thanks to international trade fair appearances in Paris, Salzburg, New York and Palm Beach, Florian & Nikolaus
quickly make a name for themselves in the international collector scene. The work of Nikolaus & Florian is also appreciated and published in the national and international press. The special catalogues Loetz I & II as well as the special catalogue Hagenauer are very well received within the international collectors and specialist community. In 2017 the joint showroom K&L is founded together with Lieselotte Setzer and Kristian Scheed. Marco Tezzele is recruited as gallery assistant. This kind of cooperation is rather rare in Austria and brings new clients for both art dealerships. On the international fair floor Florian & Nikolaus appear at the “COFA”, at “La Biennale Paris” and at the “New York Spring Masters”. From 2019 Flore Friden will strengthen the team. In 2020, the art trade Kolhammer increases its focus on the online market. With scientific assistance and a dedicated team of marketing experts a state-of-the-art website is implemented.
