Josef Hoffmann was one of the leading designers of the Wiener Werkstatte. He designed a wide variety of items from lighting, furniture over tea sets, glasses to ashtrays and whole smoking sets. In the late 1920s and early 30s, the Wiener Werkstatte was in deep financial troubles. The global situation on the stock markets and the high unemployment rate along with big economic troubles proved to be too much for the small Viennese enterprise and in 1932 the Wiener Werkstatte was completely liquidated.
The artists of the Wiener Werkstatte continued to design despite the hard times and their designs were as brilliant as ever. These vases were designed in the early 1920s, approximately around 1921. The execution is, like always, perfect and the marks are clearly visible.
