The enterprise J. & L. Lobmeyr ranges among the oldest traditional firms in Vienna and even today they produce exquisite glassware. Popular designers like Michael Powolny, Josef Hoffmann, Rudolf Marschall and Adolf Loos were having their patterns executed by Lobmeyr and have been under exclusive contracts by the manufacture. Rudolf Marschall was a trained medallist, sculptor and later a professor at the Wiener Akademie. He designed a series of glasses with etched and gilded elements for Lobmeyr. The vase comes from this series and bears the gilt mark of Lobmeyr at the bottom.
